OUR COMMUNITY SPEAKING FOR OURSELVES ...

Our Story

Welcome to the Glades,

The  Glades is a vibrant farming region along the southern edge of Lake Okeechobee, and The Voices of the Glades wants to be your digital platform to share our mutual accomplishments, beliefs, feelings and experiences that better our community.

The Glades, stretching from western Palm Beach County through the eastern edges of Hendry and Glades counties, is a hardy rural area of more than 44,300 persons. Unfortunately, particularly for many people living outside of the Glades, it's a community that  is often maligned and misunderstood.

An overwhelming majority of Glades' residents understand the important relationship with agriculture. They know the longstanding bond between the community and our region's primary industry, and they won't let misinformation disrupt it.

They also appreciate the many opportunities to make the Glades a better place to live, work and play. Affordable housing, accessible healthcare, better job training opportunities and smarter community and  economic development are all challenges facing the Glades and other communities in Florida. Fortunately, our residents are up to the task.

See what our residents think of the Glades — in their own words. Over time, we'll add more videos to turn those voices into a rich chorus that reflect a vibrant and enduring community.

We have something to say. We love the Glades, the rich farming region along Lake Okeechobee and the lifestyle and traditions that come with it. We are a close-knit community that takes great pride in a part of Florida that may be misunderstood but is a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Come join us. Make The Voices of the Glades your source of information and inspiration to bring positive changes to a region we love.

Sincerely,

CyNedra Blake
